A leading high-performance low-code platform, OutSystems combine building blocks of ready-to-use code with a user-friendly interface to reduce the time and technical acumen required to develop business-focused apps. Billed as the #1 low-code event, Next Step provides an opportunity to find out more through insights, top tips, hands-on sessions, and influential guest speakers. Seeking a fresh look to stand out in a crowded marketplace, OutSystems invited Studio Dumbar/DEPT® to create the new visual identity for Next Step.
Responding to a clear and considered brief, our aim was to create a bold, energetic identity, supporting the tagline: ‘where the future of software develops’. Working closely with our client, we sought to harness the innovative spirit and authority of a brand–savvy tech giant, and the aspirational, can-do attitude of a lifestyle brand, With plans to retain the identity for at least five years, it had to be powerful, distinctive, playful, and built to last.
Working with the client’s in-house design and motion team, we developed a strong concept with a contemporary tone. Dynamic type is key. Expressing a forward-looking attitude, an angular motif runs through the X-shaped symbol and the word-mark. In motion, the symbol comes into its own, revolving and exploding. Selected for maximum impact and clarity, a palette of black, red and white distinguishes Next Step from the neutral tones employed by other software events. Touch-points encompassed everything from print ads, marketing materials and branded merchandise, to social media banners and event motion, including a brand transition video, speaker introductions, and more.
Launched in the run up to Next Step 22, the visual identity rolled out across promotional materials before extensive application across the conference. OutSystems asked for an identity that would “knock the socks off” visiting CTOs (Chief Technical Officers) and other attendees, exceeding expectations by delivering a visual brand every bit as forward-thinking as the innovations celebrated at Next Step 22.
